2019 Update!

Wow! Here we are in February! After surviving the -50 degree windchill, I think I can say I am officially a Northern girl. Life has been both picking up speed and settling into routine here in the Twin Cities. It’s been a while, so here’s a bulleted list of what’s been going on:

  • In October – I performed in Theatre 301’s The Laramie Project (our performance lined up with the 20th anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death, it was an emotional journey).
  • In December – I was hired on as an actor with Minnesota Crisis Intervention Team, an organization that employs performers to aid in police officer training in mental health and crisis intervention. http://www.mncit.org
  • In January – I began working as an instructor for the Junior Conservatory at Stages Theatre Company. https://www.stagestheatre.org/staff-member/miller-melissa/
  • In February – I’m escaping the snow and ice for a week in the Bahamas!
  • In March – I begin rehearsals for Grumble Theatre’s production of a new work entitled Feminal.http://grumbletheater.org

I’ve got a few things brewing for this summer that can’t be announced yet, but I am feeling thankful for the opportunities I’ve gotten so far and excited for all that is to come.

Blinking Eye Theatre

Saturday August 11th marked the end of my first Minnesota Fringe production, and I could not have asked for a better team or a warmer welcome to Twin Cities Theatre.

Our playwright and director, Riley Parham, crafted a wonderfully thought provoking and hilariously endearing script that left audiences pouring out support online for our future work. Just look at these reviews:

Working with Riley and his assistant director/choreographer/costume designer Jordan Grzybowski was an absolute delight. The two of them created a little family out of our 6-person-ensemble, and by the end of the run I walked away with a new group of friends in my new home.

I cannot wait to see (and be a part of) this incredible company’s future. Follow Blinking Eye Theatre of Facebook to see what we get up to next!

And, just cause you’re here, below is a little snippet of our preview performance for Swipe Right.

Next up: The Laramie Project with Theatre 301!

Minnesota Fringe!

I am so excited to announce my first Twin Cities production!!!!! I’ll be working alongside some talented performers and artists in Blinking Eye Theatre’s fringe production of “Swipe Right.”

Come check us out at the Augsburg Main Stage!

Sunday 8/5 @4pm

Monday 8/6 @ 6:30pm

Tuesday 8/7 @ 7pm

Friday 8/10 @10pm

saturday 8/11@ 2:30pm

“Swipe Right is an original comedy by Riley Parham that satirically analyzes what it would be like if we talked to each other in real life the same way people talk through text and dating apps like Tinder. Anyone who’s been on a dating app has seen some absolutely absurd, and potentially hysterical, messages. Jump into a world where people introduce themselves OK Cupid style and fail or succeed based on the first message they send.”

Fight Family Love

Hey there! Posting from rainy (and actually snowy….) Oregon today!

It’s been an entire year since my deep dive into stage combat at SAFD NATIONALS. I miss these friends and our work so incredibly much. As a tribute, I’ve included a little snippet from my unarmed sequence, choreographed by SAFD Fight Director Chuck Coyl with the handsome and talented Brandon Brockshus (https://brockshustheatre.com).

New Home, New Opportunities

I am so happy to be settled into the sweet and burgeoning town of Hopkins, Minnesota. While unpacking boxes, organizing bookshelves, and wandering the neighborhood with my pup I’ve been able to:

  • Schedule four auditions
  • Apply for three employment opportunities
  • Prep two monologue cuttings
  • Finish Hillary Clinton’s book (which I started in December…Grad school sure does eat up your reading time)

This weekend my husband and I head out to Southern Oregon to visit family (and catch a Cabaret in Ashland ♥Oregon Shakes♥) hike, raft, canoe, and play boardgames.

I’m more than excited to return to my new life and get some projects in motion!

Stay tuned for a recap of some of the incredible work I got to be a part of during my graduate study at Texas Tech!

Moving on Up

We’ve packed up the house, our bikes, the pup, and the kitty and are headed from the west Texas desert to the land of a thousand lakes.

Diploma in hand, heart on sleeve, eyes wide open.
